This segment aired on Good Morning America this morning. The interview with Atkins is from 2002 but James Whitehouse was interviewed especially for this segment earlier this week.Atkins is terminally ill with less than 6 months to live due to brain cancer. She is still in the hospital and one of her legs has been amputated. The compassionate release request has been approved by the prison, which conducted an evaluation, and is under corrections department review, it will then go to the parole board who sign the frelease forms. Only 10 of 60 such requests were approved last year but she appears suitable and fits all the criteria. .
